Password Manager

A software tool (or service) that securely stores and manages your passwords and other credentials. Instead of reusing or writing down passwords, you keep them in a password manager "vault" that is encrypted and protected by one master password (or MFA).

The manager can generate strong random passwords for your accounts and auto-fill them when needed, so you only have to remember the one master password.

For SMBs and individual users alike, password managers greatly improve "password hygiene" - they encourage unique, complex passwords for every account because the user doesn't have to memorize them. They also often include features like sharing passwords securely within a team (for example, allowing multiple employees to use a shared account without everyone needing to record it separately).

Overall, a password manager empowers users to maintain strong credentials without the cognitive burden of remembering dozens of complex strings.
