Patch Management
Ensuring that software updates (patches) are applied in a timely manner to fix security bugs and improve stability. "Patches" are released by software vendors (like Microsoft, Apple, or Adobe) when they discover vulnerabilities or errors. Patch management means keeping an inventory of your software, watching for updates, and installing them (or letting them auto-update).
In an SMB, good patch management might be as simple as enabling automatic updates on your operating systems and applications. This practice closes many common doors that attackers use - for example, if there's a known flaw in an app you use, patching it is one of the quickest, easiest ways to protect your business.
