Vulnerability
A weakness or flaw in your security that could be exploited by a threat. Vulnerabilities can be technical (like an unpatched software bug or a misconfigured server) or human (like an employee with poor password habits). Discovering a vulnerability doesn't mean you've been hacked - it means there's a hole that could be used by an attacker.
Managing vulnerabilities is critical for small businesses; it's much easier to fix a weak spot (for example, apply a software patch) than to deal with the fallout if an attacker finds it first.
